I Am Sam


Sam Dawson, Sean Penn, has the mental illness and due to this has the mind of a seven year old. He has spends the night with a homeless women which results in them having a child together however the women leaves immediatly after birth to leave Sam to raise the child, Lucy, alone. Sam manages until Lucy turns age seven, and finds it difficult to keep up with every day education and tasks that a normal seven year old could easily cope with. Lucy, who clearly loves her father with all her heart, begins to slack in her education and schooling which results in her being held back, however it soon becomes clear Lucy is doing this for her father's sake, as she doesn't want to upset him by become smarter than her father, Sam. Lucy is then taken away, and Sam gets a lawyer Rita Harrison to take his case. Sam speaks to Rita in a way she didn't believe possible as he teachers her the true meanings of life and how really love and happiness is all we need not the knowledge we are granted in education.
